If you're an ocean lover, look to the Cove balcony cabins on Deck 5 - we’ve heard of people spotting marine life like dolphins from their cabin. The world you'll find yourself in is one of complete peace, sea breezes and, of course, a nearby bar. It's the place to get done the kind of stuff you just can't seem to do anywhere else — reconnect with your partner, finish that book, or do absolutely, blissfully, nothing at all. Think about the fruity Hurricane cocktail or the stately Sazerac — for ages now, these hometown heroes have been ambassadors for New Orleans ‘credo of fun, flavor and just plain good times.

As mentioned, this is the largest ship in Carnival’s fleet, but it also ranks pretty well compared to other mega-ships around the world. At publishing date, Mardi Gras is the ninth-largest cruise ship in the world, outranked by seventh-place ship AIDAnova from AIDA Cruises by a mere 2,000 gross tonnage. Relax in your own personal outdoor oasis… designed for maximum sea breeze and the most stunning views. Mardi Gras has already completed two sets of sea trials in the Baltic and is now in the final stages of outfitting.

The cabanas are fully-stocked with beverages, chilled towels, plush bathrobes and provide dedicated concierge service with lunch delivery and fresh fruits. Carnival Excel Suite passengers enjoy priority cabana reservations. Rudi's Seagrill is another fleet-first dining venue (seafood restaurant by Rudi Sodamin / Holland America Line's Master Chef).
The Excel Suites offer passengers a resort-style concept, concierge phone line, access to the exclusive Loft 19, and more. With more than 2,500 guest staterooms aboard the ship, cruisers have plenty of options to choose from. The vessel has over 1,400 balcony staterooms, 181 suites, and 82 handicap-accessible staterooms. This mega-ship can accommodate up to 6,338 passengers (sailing at full capacity) in 2,641 rooms with a crew of 1,745 members. If that’s not enough, Mardi Gras features revolutionary new amenities, including BOLT, the first-ever roller coaster at sea.

But he’s serious about seafood, and an evening at Rudi’s proves it through the courses. Enjoy selections like seafood bisque and crab-stuffed lobster tail imperial — all served with an elegant flair that pays proper tribute to the beauty of the ocean from which so much fun, and flavor, arises. With 2022 coming to an end, it’s that time to begin announcing the winners of Cruise Hive’s Cruise Ship Awards. Receiving the most votes from readers, Carnival Cruise Line’s Mardi Gras cruise ship has become the winner of the best overall cruise ship of 2022. It’s now the second consecutive year that Mardi Gras has won the category.

Celebrity chef Emeril Lagasse has a specialty restaurant (located in the French Quarter of Deck 6 / portside). Lagasse is the chef and owner of 11 different restaurants, including 4 in New Orleans. He is a regular guest on Good Morning America (TV show) and has hosted 2000+ shows on Food Network (US pay-TV channel). Lagasse Restaurant offers New Orleans cuisine, including spicy creole specialties. Menu items include muffuletta sandwiches, oyster and cochon de lait po-boys, gumbo, jambalaya, side dishes (Creole potato salad with diced scallions, red beans, jazz-man rice), desserts (Bananas Foster, lemon icebox pie). For Breakfast are also offered Shrimp & Grits, and Shrimp Creole Omelet.
Like most large-sized newbuilds, the new Carnival ship Mardi Gras is LNG-powered, with 4x Caterpillar Marine LNG engines (model MaK 16M-46DF) generating combined output 57,2 MW. The propulsion system is based on two Azimuting thrusters with combined power output 37 MW. The ship has 3x LNG tanks (cryogenic steel) with total capacity ~3200 m3.
This new special space for suite guests only is similar to many VIP spaces that we frequently see across new ships these days. A Carnival Excel Suite aboard Mardi Gras is the kind of room that proves that luxury and comfort go hand-in-hand. In this large room you’ll find not only a bathroom with a spacious shower and a double sink, but a good amount of room for living and lounging. That goes for the inside of the room as well as the outside — your room also features extra space for kicking back, ocean-breeze-style, on your balcony. And let’s not forget suite-level perks like getting your vacation going faster with VIP check-in. Many firsts include the introduction of a new-to-the-line suites-only enclave, six themed zones — each with unique venues for dining, entertainment and more.
Each meal ends with the specialty desserts "Chocolate Bento Box" and "Green Tea Ice Cream". The restaurant is open for lunch (seadays only) and for dinner (every night of the voyage). On January 25, 2019, was announced that the new Carnival XL-class vessel will have 6 themed zones (neighborhoods) - Grand Central, French Quarter, Lido-Pool, La Piazza, Summer Landing, The Ultimate Playground. The 2021-built Carnival Mardi Gras cruise ship is CCL-fleet's first newest and largest liner of the Carnival XL-Class. All the three units in this series are from the German shipbuilder Meyer Werft (shipyard Turku Finland).
The first one on everyone's list is the Carnival Mardi Gras roller coaster Bolt, the first roller coaster at sea -- a genuine thrill ride you need to try at least once. And then there's the Atrium, located on the side of the ship instead of the center, a placement that allows the space to have three-story sea views during the day and become a top-notch entertainment space at night. If you give a cruise ship the name Mardi Gras, you're setting expectations that everyone onboard is going to have a good time -- and Carnival's newest ship delivers just that. With its own roller coaster and a stunning Atrium, the ship packs a punch with lots of free dining and entertainment options. These suites are located on the port and starboard sides of the ship.
Whether your family is spending your Mardi Gras vacation in an economical interior stateroom or springing for a luxurious vacation in one of Mardi Gras' Cloud 9 Spa Suites, we'll match you with the best room for your dollar. With over 2,600 staterooms on the ship, one of them is calling your name. Located directly below BOLT is the “Ultimate Playground” – one of six themed zones around the ship. The Ultimate Playground features Carnival’s fleet’s largest WaterWorks water park, complete with three water slides, including the 312-foot Blue Lightning.
They feature a lounge area, a wet bar and a large wrap-around balcony with ample space for dining and relaxation. Nobody books a Cloud 9 Spa stateroom unless they love relaxation and want to do more of it. If this sounds like you, let us tell you about a room with a little extra something.
